How radical that would be????

In all the hustle and bustle it’s easy to forget — we were the generation of dirt eating kids, home by dark else you’re grounded pre teens and Saturday morning Ragers who switched from a Nokia 3315 to the iPhone 1 mid puberty.

We were bred for change and thrive in JOY!

Our personal anthems were the song lyrics we used as our MSN status and Facebook was nothing more than a convenient connection post high school grad.

We spoke our *truth* and let the basics enhance the connections we had, not replace the ones we most value.

Life was all sorted in simplicity.

I’m not suggesting we need to give up our gifts or stop making magic. I just think the weight of our expectations give us amnesia.

We forget that joy is one of the most sought out and valuable states that naturally occurs when we — ahem — fucking relax 🧡 that’s all.

(Oh and the wet dog look is from a rainy adventure to the beach. Grin for the win.)

I woke up today feeling flat, raw and anxious and I had no reasonable explanation as to why. ⠀
Below is the dialogue from big me (higher self) to little me (subjective ego).⠀
*adjusts mic*
LM: fuck it, I’m flat, I’m tired and I hate all people. ⠀
BM: expression isn't the same as complaint and it most certainly doesn't shift heaviness. ⠀
LM: oh please let me jus—⠀
BM: what — whinge? Try actually paying attention to what you're feeling rather than playing out those melodramatic scripts — you’re making yourself wrong and resisting. ⠀
LM: you’d resist too if you felt how I fe—⠀
BM: I do feel it, I’m just not attached to your expectations about how you should feel first day back. What if you stopped fighting for a damn minute and paid attention to what’s happening?⠀
LM: dunno, what?⠀
BM: you will begin self regulating, healing and integrating on your ownsome (that’s now a word), that’s what. ⠀
LM: stop it — really? How?⠀
BM: well, as we shift the focus from inner chaos to present sensations like our breath, the bear of our heart, sweat rolling down our temples and flutters in our tummy, we are no longer the subject of suffering, we’re witnessing the object that was momentarily entangled in distortion. ⠀
LM: distortion?⠀
BM: yes, judgment creates distortion. When you’re fighting life, you become the source of your own inner turbulence ⠀
LM: oh. That’s me? ⠀
BM: mmmhmm. Look, when things are shaky and nothing is working, we might see that we are on the verge of something. We might realise that this is a very vulnerable and tender place, and that tenderness can go either way. We can shut down and feel resentful or we can touch in on that throbbing quality. ⠀
LM: you said throbbing 😂⠀
BM: stop it, WE ALREADY HAVE everything we need. There is no need to self-improve this mood. All these expectations that we lay on ourselves—the identities that we so dearly cling to —never touch our basic wealth.⠀
LM: sounds legit.⠀
BM: you’re welcome. Pema Chodrön says “We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don't really get solved. They come together and they fall apart.” ⠀

Sometimes it is the models that create the madness. Inspired by a breakfast chat with @being.gc yesterday and Ram Dass infamous teaching around methods and traps. They’re brilliant for becoming aware, after that though, it’s best to drop them and let them fall away. Else we become dependant on incessantly self analysing to feel safe and right and ensuring we’ve got our models on right and fitted tight. Then of course, we choke the expansiveness of life. We don’t want that now do we ☺️?
